Top Ten New-To-Me Authors I Read In 2014!

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.
Every once in a while I participate in this one when I either
1) Like the theme, and/or 2) Have the time!
This week's topic:
Top Ten New-To-Me Authors I Read In 2014

This week's topic was HARD! Here are ten authors I never read before 2014 (This doesn't mean they debuted this year, however. They're just new to me!)

Here they come...

1) EMERY LORD

#1 #1 #1 Most of these aren't in any particular order, but Emery is the very first author to come to mind. I'm not a big fan of contemporary, but Emery Lord stole my heart this year with OPEN ROAD SUMMER. It is killing me that I have an ARC of her new novel and can't read it until next month! I need more Emery Lord in my life!

2) KIMBERLEY GRIFFITHS LITTLE

I've been wanting to share my thoughts on FORBIDDEN with you for a while because I loved it so much, and I finally get to do that this coming Thursday on my blog tour stop! It's SO good. I wasn't sure how much I'd like it, but I loved it. If you like fantasy novels that take place in the desert such as THE GIRL OF FIRE AND THORNS by Rae Carson, VESSEL by Sarah Beth Durst, and/or THE PERILOUS SEA by Sherry Thomas, you'll want to read this one.

Stop back on Thursday for my blog tour stop!

3) KASIE WEST

This one is kind of sort of a cheat. I actually read Kasie West for the first time last year when I received an ARC of PIVOT POINT But then I never read anything else by her, and I wasn't running out to grab any of her books. Everything changed this year when I discovered her contemporary novels. (I know, liking her contemporary over her sci-fi? Color me surprised, too!) I was lucky enough to receive an early copy of ON THE FENCE, and the writing and style made me snag THE DISTANCE BETWEEN US as well. I really loved both books. I want to read everything coming out by Kasie West in the future, and I want to go back and give PIVOT POINT a second try!

So 2014 was the year I fell for this author...which is why I'm still counting it!

My Review: ON THE FENCE, THE DISTANCE BETWEEN US

4) Mary E. Pearson

I never read Mary E. Pearson's Jenna Fox Chronicles, unlike many other people out there. I'd heard about them; the series was supposed to be fantastic. I never read it, though. My first brush with the author was this year when I read THE KISS OF DECEPTION. And let me tell you...IT IS AMAZING. I loved loved loved it. Definitely one of my top fantasy novels of 2014! This is another case where the sequel is sitting here calling my name and I can't pick it up before January... *sigh*

5) Rebecca Serle

I'd heard good things about Rebecca Serle in the past, but none of her books really motivated me to pick them up (Again, not a huge contemporary lover here...). I really got in the mood to read about "famous people" after falling so hard for Emery Lord earlier this year. When my BEA roommate Katie from Katie's Book Blog received an extra copy, she gave it to me...and I am so, so thankful. I wound up loving this book so much more than I ever dreamed possible!

6) Maria V. Snyder

I know, I know. How did I only read her in 2014!? The truth is, I've been meaning to read this author for years. I've taken her books out from the library several times. I have just NEVER. HAD. TIME. They always went back unread. I even met her in 2012 at PAYA..and I haven't read that book, either. ^^;;; Earlier this year, I had a second chance to meet Maria Snyder at a Divergent Movie Launch Party. I read POISON STUDY and ASSASSIN STUDY before the signing, then bought all the other books in the series. I just...haven't had time to read them. But I really, really want to! The first book was great! Time, come to me!!!

(I...haven't reviewed this yet? I'd better rectify that soon!)

7) Amy Finnegan

Amy Finnegan and her novel NOT IN THE SCRIPT also benefited from my love of Emery Lord (And Rebecca Serle!) this year. Because I loved the two of them, I really wanted to read this...and I really, really enjoyed it! I want more books in the world, and more from Amy Finnegan! Super cute and sweet and fun! I would pick up another book from this author blind!

8) JENNIFER ELLISION

The pretty cover hooked me. The elemental powers sealed the deal. I already wanted to read the book when I first heard about it, and even more so once I heard that Jennifer and I once ran in a similar fandom social circle back in the day. I wanted to read this even more after meeting her at BEA, and I'm so glad the book lived up to the hype! I can't wait to read more! This is great if you love elemental magic or series such as Avatar: The Last Airbender.

9) JOY N. HENSLEY

This book was so unique in its perspective. Thanks to Tamora Pierce, I have a weakness for girls either disguised as boys or attempting to do their heart's desire when surrounded by boys. Sam is in the first class of girls to be admitted to a military academy, and everything is so tough for her. This was brutal to read at times, but also so good, and I really want Joy to write a sequel! *fingers crossed*

...I haven't reviewed this? Yet another grievance I must rectify soon!

10) STACEY O'NEALE

Stacey O'Neale once edited books for Jennifer L. Armentrout, and if you're a fan of the Covenant Series, you'll like this as well. Plus, elemental magic!!! The world is great, and I'm glad that Stacey published these this year. FRAGILE REIGN just came out, and I'm looking forward to having the chance to read it! I was also really excited to hear the news last week that she picked up an agent, and can't wait to see what her next series will be after this one!
