Week in Review
The New Nook Edition!
My poor nook died last week. It was an Original Edition, which isn't even being made anymore, but luckily, I was still under warranty until August, so I was sent a replacement for free...and it was a newer, better model, the Simple Touch, so I feel incredibly lucky that it happened NOW and not a month from now. Because, you know, I'm still hoping they'll come out with color e-ink and I don't want to purchase a new nook yet. I would have hated buying a new one and then seeing the one I REALLY wanted on the market...
Ah, but my old nook knew me well. It knew how much I loved mermaids and froze on a web page with images from the TV series H2O: Just Add Water because I had been looking up the episode order of Season 2 to figure out what to watch next on the DVR!
Speaking of mermaids...Splash into Summer is officially under way. We have a week under our belts and another two to go! Here's a helpful Schedule of Events.
Be sure to display our button to receive bonus giveaway entries during Splash ( a few coming this week!) and to help us promote the event! ♥ ♥ ♥

RECEIVED THIS WEEK:
*UNWIND by Neal Shusterman
{I snagged a finished copy when I saw it come in at work. I read this when I started blogging and was under the mistaken idea that I could only review "new" titles and no one would care about backlist since millions of reviews already existed. I'm eager to re-read it before Shusterman returns to his world with UNWHOLLY. UNWIND has one of the creepiest scenes I've read in YA! What's in store with UNWHOLLY?}
Purchased:
*nook Simple Touch
{I didn't technically purchase this. My nook screen froze and since almost two years ago I purchased a 2-yr protection plan, I received a nook Simple Touch as a replacement now!}
*ONE BREATH AWAY by Heather Gudenkauf
{I didn't technically purchase this. My nook screen froze and since almost two years ago I purchased a 2-yr protection plan, I received a nook Simple Touch as a replacement now!}
*ONE BREATH AWAY by Heather Gudenkauf
{Shown with the author's other two novels, which I already own. Recommended for fans of adult contemporary authors such as Jodi Picoult and Jacquelyn Mitchard.}
*JUST FOR FINS by Tera Lynn Childs
{I devoured this in a day! Look for a review this week! Shown with first two books in series, which I already own.}
*WAKING STORMS by Sarah Porter
*WAKING STORMS by Sarah Porter
{I was lucky enough to read this months ago and did a Mythological Mondays post then. I can finally review this one now!}
*BETWEEN THE LINES by Jodi Picoult and Samantha van Leer
*BETWEEN THE LINES by Jodi Picoult and Samantha van Leer
{I did an early review during Fairy Tale Fortnight and interviewed both authors! This week, I'm also going to do an interior analysis during a Mermaid Spotting! post.}
*SHADOW CRY by Jenna Burtenshaw
{I didn't pay much attention to this book last year, but then I saw the cover/read the synopsis for the new novel, BLACKWATCH, and realized I should read the first book in the trilogy, well, first!}
*DULL BOY by Sarah Cross
{I reviewed Sarah's new novel, KILL ME SOFTLY, and loved it! It's fairy tales, even though you'd never guess that from the title/cover! When I heard she had a previously-published novel about superheroes, I knew I wanted to read DULL BOY as well!}
*TIGER LILY by Jodi Lynn Anderson
{I did a Mermaid Spotting post and featured an excerpt from this novel and will do a full review later in July after Splash concludes! If you like PETER PAN tales, you'll love this!}
E-books for Review:
*THE BRIDES OF ROLLROCK ISLAND by Margo Lanagan {Out Now}
{Thanks to Netgalley and David Fickling Books! I'm going to attempt to r&r this one for this week's Splash!}
*PUSHING THE LIMITS by Katie McGarry {Out July 31, 2012}
{Thanks to Netgalley and HarlequinTeen! I've been hearing really good things about this one, and while I'm not a huge contemporary reader, authors such as Stephanie Perkins have wormed their way into my heart, so I'm more willing to give a contemporary with great buzz a chance these days!}
*RENEGADE by J. A. Souders {Out Nov. 13, 2012}
{Thanks to Edelweiss and Macmillan/Tor Teen! I forgot to mention that I snagged this a couple weeks ago...or maybe I waited because it was the only new e-book? I forget... Anyway, um, I've already done a feature on it? *cough*}
*THE KEY & THE FLAME by Claire Caterer {Out April 2, 2013}
{Thanks to Edelweiss and Margaret K. McElderry Books / Simon & Schuster! This one has a beautiful cover and sounds like a good read, so I'm looking forward to it!}
*EMPTY by K. M. Walton {Out Jan. 01, 2013}
{Thanks to Edelweiss and Simon Pulse! Walton is a local-ish author and I know bloggers who went to school with her, etc., so I've been wanting to read her, but CRACKED didn't really appeal to me. EMPTY sounds easier for me to get into, so I'm excited!}
*DODGER by Terry Pratchett {Out Sept. 13, 2012}
{Thanks to Edelweiss and HarperCollins! While I own a couple of Pratchett novels, I've yet to read this amazing staple in fantasy! I'm hoping to rectify this lapse in my education with DODGER. ^_^}
*TEETH by Heather Moskowitz {Out Jan. 01, 2013}
{Thanks to Edelweiss and Simon Pulse! I'd like to try to get this one in for a spotlight feature during Splash this week...}
*MYSTIC CITY by Theo Lawrence {Out April 2, 2013}
{Thanks to Edelweiss and Random House! I was intrigued because this is recommended "for fans of MATCHED, THE HUNGER GAMES, X-MEN, and BLADE RUNNER," which is quite a mash-up! The synopsis intrigues me; this could be interesting!}
*RUMP: The True Story of Rumpelstiltskin by Liesl Shurtliff {Out April 9, 2013}
{Thanks to Edelweiss and Knopf / Random House! [That link goes to the author's blog and not Goodreads because the book "doesn't exist" yet...] I love fairy tales, and this sounds like a fun one. Plus, the cover is so much fun!}
*SERAPHINA by Rachel Harman {Out this Tuesday!}
{Thanks to Edelweiss and Random House! I probably won't have time to read this before the e-ARC expires because I still have four mermaid books I want to read and spotlight, but the thought is there. I would have read it sooner if I'd known it was available early, because I've heard great things about this!}
What did you get in your mailbox this week?
Renegade sounds awesome. The cover for it is so pretty. Pushing The Limits was amazing. I hope you love everything you got. Sorry to hear about your Nook...but now you got a new one. Great week.
ReplyDeleteGrace
Wow, phew! I think I would have killed someone if I hadn't gotten a replacement.. I have a Kindle and it's been behaving a little badly these past few days.. I'm suspicious.. XD
ReplyDeleteAnyway, happy reading!

So many awesome books! That's so cool that you got a Nook! Sorry that it froze though. I have Unwind at home and I can't wait to start it, it sounds really good! Also, Pushing the Limits was AMAZING! I hope you enjoy all your books!
ReplyDeleteCheck out my Stacking the Shelves!
Great set! Congrats on the new nook. So cool that you got Just for Fins. I loved the first two books.
ReplyDeleteMy Bookish Recap
I read unwind recently and loved it! Can't wait for unwholly!
ReplyDeleteOh, I got Brides of Rollrock Island too! I can't wait to read that one.
ReplyDeleteAnd dude, that scene in Unwind is unreal. My friend met NS at a conference and snagged me a signed copy of Unwind. He read aloud from Unwholly... she told me about the scene. Oh wow. I already pre-ordered my copy because it is going to blow the lid off Unwind (and I thought Unwind was creepy and amazing). Seriously one of the best dystopian YA books around.
