TANGLED TIDES is Karen Amanda Hooper's first published novel.  DANGEROUS DEPTHS, the second book in THE SEA MONSTER MEMOIRS, is coming soon.  Rhemalda Publishing has yet to issue a release date or cover reveal.

Earlier this year, Karen released GRASPING AT ETERNITY, the first book in THE KINDRILY SERIES.  The second book, TAKING BACK FOREVER, is scheduled for release in 2013.

Secret Meet-Up

I’m a Disney girl at heart. My parents are Disney lovers. I grew up in a house filled with Disney collectibles, and we went to Disney World or Disneyland every year (sometimes more than once a year) since as far back as I can remember. Now, we live so close to Disney World that we can go whenever we want. So, it’s no big surprise that I asked my friend Ariel (aka The Little Mermaid, most famous mermaid EVER--in my humble and professional opinion) to help me with a giveaway for the Mermaid Splash.


As you can see from the photo, she happily signed a copy of TANGLED TIDES. And I’m thrilled to sign beside one of the stars who deepened my love for mermaids. My love began with Sea Wee dolls and Madison from the movie SPLASH, but Daryl Hannah never answered my request to meet up and sign my book. That’s okay though, because Ariel said yes!


Readers might be wondering what Ariel and I talked about when we met, so here’s how the conversation went:


Me: Hi, Ariel. Could you please sign my mermaid book?
Her: *examines the book* You’re the author of this book?
Me: Yes. *blushes*
Her: Oh my goodness! *flips through the pages and looks at the cover again* TANGLED TIDES. It’s very pretty.
Me: Thank you.
Her: What’s it about?
Me: A human girl turned mermaid who has to save a world of sea creatures. Some of your cousins are in it.
Her: Ooh, now I have to read it. *Stands there and actually reads a couple lines*
Me: *Awkwardly looks at the long line of people giving me dirty looks for taking so long* Umm, I hate to rush you, but your fans are waiting.
Her: I’m going to have to get a copy of this book and show my sisters. *signs her name*
Me: Aww, thanks. I hope you mermaids enjoy it.
Her: I’m sure we will! Is this the only mermaid book you wrote?

Me: I’m working on a sequel called DANGEROUS DEPTHS.
Her: That’s a much catchier title than THE LITTLE MERMAID 2.
Me: *laughs* Yes, I have to agree with you there. May I get a picture with you?
Her: Of course you may. *strokes her hair* I forgot my dinglehopper. I hope my hair looks okay.
Me: You look lovely as always.
Her: You’re so kind. *poses for pictures*
Me: Thanks so much for your time.
Her: My pleasure. Come back and see me soon!


One lucky winner will receive the copy of TANGLED TIDES that Ariel signed. I’ll also sign it, but I know most of you want it for Ariel’s signature, and that’s okay. I totally understand. I’ll also include the pic of Ariel signing the book so the owner has proof of Ariel’s signature authenticity.


This is one of the many perks of being a mermaid book author. I get to mingle with famous mermaids. I’m gonna go back soon and ask her if she wants to hang out at the beach with me and tell me about life under the sea. Never hurts to interview one of the bigwigs.

TANGLED TIDES includes a delicious romance that even the most dispassionate soul can t refuse. I absolutely adored Yara and her strength in all things, including love. And Treygan? I seriously want in on that merman action. Blue has never been so sexy. Hooper has created a believable underwater world that will leave readers wishing for a tail instead of legs.
