{Armchair BEA} Interviewing...Myself!

~*~

Armchair BEA is the site to be at this week if you aren't able to get into NYC for BEA!

Day I features an interview with bloggers across the net!

Here are my answers to a few questions I'm sure you're all dying to know the answers to! ^.~

Greetings, Bookworms! If you’re stopping over from Armchair BEA, welcome! If you frequent A Backwards Story, welcome back!

This year for Armchair BEA, book bloggers not able to attend the physical event in NYC have a chance to interact with other bloggers and readers online!

Today’s post is an introductory one to get to know me a little bit better, whether you’re new to the blogger or an old-timer. Either way, I bet you’ll learn something new! If you’re participating as well, leave me a link; I can’t wait to see everyone’s answers!!

An interview with...
me! ^_^

What are you currently reading, or what is your favorite book you have read so far in 2012?

Well, I just finished reading SHADOW AND BONE by Leigh Bardugo from Macmillan’s Henry Holt and Company Imprint. It was FANTASTIC. I’ll be reviewing it tomorrow…if I can finish getting my thoughts in order! I had an ARC for review and I admit that I rushed out and bought a finished copy this week because it was that good. And I will admit that I did NOT want to read this book. The summary sounded…not up my alley. I mean, “…crawling with monsters who feast on human flesh?” Eww, no. But the monsters are more reminiscent of Kristin Cashore’s FIRE than they are a zombie/vampire/whatever novel, and the book is a sweeping fantasy, so I’m so glad I took a chance on it! Definitely a 2012 favorite so far.

Speaking of 2012 favorites, my favorite 2012 novel so far has to be INCARNATE by Jodi Meadows. And…wait, I didn’t review it? *blinks* I could have SWORN I did…then again, my computer did crash in January… Okay, I will be reviewing INCARNATE this month! You should all read it because it is so well-written that the next few books I read paled in comparison AND my writer’s heart broke a bit because it knows I can never write as well as Jodi Meadows can!

What is your favorite feature on your blog (i.e. author interviews, memes, something specific to your blog)?

This one is hard! There are so many features I love sharing with all of you. I’ve always loved participating in Cover Crazy [Check out today’s choice!] because I love looking at awesome book covers, and I’m really sad that the meme is now defunct, though I still post entries myself! I also love Mythological Mondays [Check out today’s review and giveaway!], which is my own feature, because I love sharing my love of mythology with everyone. I also love participating in Fairy Tale Fortnight every April and am looking forward to the return of my own Splash into Summer this coming summer because I love fairy tales and mermaids. So…I guess I can’t pick one after all!

If you could eat dinner with any author or character, who would it be and why?

I think I would need to eat dinner with Cindy Pon (SILVER PHOENIX, FURY OF THE PHOENIX), Rae Carson (THE GIRL OF FIRE AND THORNS, THE CROWN OF EMBER, and THE BITTER KINGDOM), and Daniel A. Cohen (MASTERS OF THE VEIL).

All three of these authors made me crave the food they were writing about, and if I recall correctly, I mentioned the use of food when I reviewed each of these! I want to share a meal in the worlds of each of these authors. YUM!

What literary location would you most like to visit? Why?

Hmm. Hmm!! Growing up, I read THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA by C.S. Lewis over and over again, always wishing that Narnia truly existed. I wanted to be swept away like Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy were to a world with nymphs and adventures and mythical creatures.

I would also love to live under the sea as a mermaid. I think that every time I read a mermaid novel; there’s no one “sea” or “book” I’d like to live in most for this one. If I can be a mermaid SOMEWHERE, I’ll be happy!

What is your favorite part about the book blogging community? Is there anything that you would like to see change in the coming years?

I have loved meeting all of you! I have met so many amazing bloggers and readers through blogging. Your comments make me smile, your posts enlighten me and make me want to read new books, our conversations on Twitter are epic. I started blogging to share my thoughts on books I was reading with my friends, and now, I consider many of you friends despite only knowing you online! We have a great community, and I’m proud to be a part of it. ^_^

Have your reading tastes changed since you started blogging? How?

I read a lot more YA now than I did before I started blogging. Maybe part of that is because I’ve been working with YA novels for the past couple of years, so I saw more YA titles than I did adult ones. Maybe it’s because all of the bloggers I’ve fallen in love with review more YA than they do adult novels. Maybe it’s because publishers are taking chances on so many amazing YA authors and the genre is full of some of my favorite novels. Maybe it’s a lot of things. I stopped reading YA for a few years, and I’m so glad that I’m reading and enjoying it again now!

It’s to the point where even the ideas I have to write about are predominantly YA these days. They never were before, but right now, I would love to write in the YA genre most of all!

I also read more genres in YA than I do elsewhere. With “adult” books, I tend to read realistic contemporary fiction and select types of fantasy. With YA, I read more types of fantasy (the fantasy genres I like best are found most frequently here!), and thanks to blogging, I’ve even begun reading select YA contemporary and paranormal titles, and I’m not a huge fan of either genre. YA Contemporary makes me think of high school. Been there, done that, bought multiple school t-shirts. I’m enjoying John Green at the moment, and have also fallen for authors such as Daisy Whitney, Antony John and even “lighter” novels by authors like Stephanie Perkins (Case in point right here! I would have NEVER read her if I hadn’t heard multiple bloggers say she was amazing because…yeah…that title, that cover…!), Ally Carter, and Jessica Brody. Paranormal makes me think of witches and fairies, of vampires and werewolves and zombies, etc., and I’m not a fan of those types of novels. I do, however, find myself enjoying authors such as Cynthia Hand (I never thought I could love an angel novel), Michelle Hodkin, Rachel Hawkins (all the paranormal creatures I normally dislike reading about are here!), and Sarah Alderson, which are all classified as paranormal.

I know this is going up REALLY late, and I apologize for that!  I'd still love to see your Q&As! I hope you're having as much fun so far as I am! ^_^

  14. I wish I could be a mermaid also. I would love to be able to visit the world of Narnia.

  15. I too loved "Incarnate". It's funny but again and again I keep seeing people say that they read more YA since they have been book blogging. I think it has to be about being open to the genre but also about the surge in quantity and quality in the last few years. It's great to find a new blog and "meet" a new blogger...one of the reasons I love this event each year. I would love for you to visit me at Stiletto Storytime if you get the chance. Have a great Armchair BEA week!
