Cover Crazy: GRASPING AT ETERNITY by Karen Amanda Hooper

Cover Crazy is hosted by The Book Worms. Each week, bloggers "admire the art and beauty of a book’s design, so I’m going to post minimal words. It is up to you to write how you feel and what you like about it the way you’d like to."

I first heard about Karen Amanda Hooper last year because, hello, mermaids!  I was originally going to read TANGLED TIDES earlier this year, but never did, so I'll be reading it in June/July for Splash into Summer.

In the meantime, Karen has a brand-new series launching May 1st, and I like this cover as well!  (She really wins when it comes to cover design!)

GRASPING AT ETERNITY by Karen Amanda Hooper

The coloring is spot-on and eye-catching!  I love the way there are peacock feathers everywhere (I have an intense love of peacocks!)  The model's top really picks up on the blue from the feathers, as does the novel's title.  Even the white sheets take on a bluish cast in the shadows and pull everything together.

I like the way there are swirls in the title, and love, love, LOVE the way the designer embellished the word eternity.  The stars at the beginning and end are great, and that double-curl on the "y!"  Stop my heart.  Can you see those eyes peering out at us through the curl?  Are they evil eyes?

Once you notice the hidden eyes, you also see that there's a hidden clock at both the upper-right and bottom-left of the cover.

This cover has so much of everything:  Great image quality, perfect coloring, mystery and intrigue.  I want to know more about those hidden images and all the peacock feathers and flower petals.  You would NEVER think this book was going to be self-published looking at this gorgeous cover!

*wants this book right now!*

What do you think of my choice this week?

  1. I'm having trouble making the connection between peacocks, rose petals, and find sand. Is this an ornamental garden scene or a beach?
I like the colors, but I am confused with this cover.

  4. Wow, this is actually a really nice cover considering it's a self-published novel! Peacock feathers are awesome :D

Also, I think it would have taken me a while to notice those hidden eyes and clocks if you had not pointed them out, LOL!

  5. Thanks so much for the cover love! :) The things you pointed out are some of my favorite parts about the cover, and everything does tie into the story somehow.

Lisa, it's not sand, it's just a white sheet, but I can see how it might look like sand.

    Thanks, Sana and Danya!
