COVER CRAZY: ICE (German) by Sarah Beth Durst

Cover Crazy is hosted by The Book Worms. Each week, bloggers "admire the art and beauty of a book’s design, so I’m going to post minimal words. It is up to you to write how you feel and what you like about it the way you’d like to."

Why I Love This Cover:

Sarah Beth Durst revealed the cover art for the German release of ICE, her re-telling of the fairy tale EAST OF THE SUN, WEST OF THE MOON (which I discussed earlier this year alongside other versions here).

Isn't it GORGEOUS? I'm still rather fond of the original cover, which looks like:

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut if I knew any German, I would totally want that cover to call my own. It's too bad that being 1/2 German doesn't mean I don't automatically know 1/2 the language, right? Wouldn't that be nice....

I loved ICE. It was one of the first books I ever reviewed on my blog(here). Heck, I love Sarah Beth Durst! She breathes so much life into her books. Even though I'm not big on vampires, she even makes THEM sound amazing with her upcoming novel DRINK, SLAY, LOVE.

And this cover? Perfection! Both, really. You feel cold just looking at those images. You do when reading Sarah's writing as well, so they work well together.

I love the way there is ice cracking across the cover, and that even though it's so different from the US image, they still keep a polar bear so you know what the book's about. I'm sad that Cassie's hair isn't red on the cover, but it still works.

I think my favorite aspect is the typography. Look at that gorgeous title. That C! And oh, that E! How beautiful! True love!!

What do you think? What cover are you crazy about this week?

  1. These are both so pretty! Youre right, I feel cold just looking at them. I've never heard of these but I'll definitely check them out.

  3. I like the second on the best, I think. Though they are both beautiful. I think I'm going to go back and find your review on this one, since I'm not familiar with it.

  4. They both look great. I don't like the long nails on the first one though. Her hands look like they need lotion. Or, it could be that I don't have my glasses on so it just looks that way.

I'm going to add these to my list. I didn't know she wrote these books. I was under the impression that Drink, Slay, Love was her first book. I loved it, so I'm sure these are awesome.

  5. @Laura: I love when covers can evoke a strong emotion/feeling. The book is great. I hope it sounds interesting to you!

@Carmel: Isn't it? It makes me shudder with its amazingness!

    @Bookish Brunette: I wannnnnnnnt it.

@Gina: I'm definitely partial to the second one, but I really like this one, too. Yeah, that was one of my very first reviews, before I ever knew you! It's a really good book, though :)

@Flashlight: Her nails seem okay to me, lol! Maybe the cracked hands is just the cracked ice effect? I personally like the effect :) DRINK, SLAY, LOVE is actually Sarah's fifth book! It's her first paranormal, though, and it's getting a TON of attention! I'm excited for her :)

  6. Oh my goodness! GORGEOUS! Why oh WHY don't I speak German! Scratch that... I might have to buy it anyway... When I'm ridiculously rich, I'm going to start collecting these GORGEOUS foreign editions. :) I like that cover WAY better than the US cover, which, to me, is only alright.
