Cover Crazy: STRUCK by Rhonda Stapleton, PAST PERFECT by Leila Sales

Cover Crazy is hosted by The Book Worms. Each week, bloggers "admire the art and beauty of a book’s design, so I’m going to post minimal words. It is up to you to write how you feel and what you like about it the way you’d like to."

Today I have not one, but TWO adorable covers. I thought the themes were similar, so I’m including both together!

Why I Love This Cover:

Rhonda Stapleton revealed the cover for STRUCK last week. Isn’t it fun? I love the way the rain is made out of paper hearts, as though love is all around (LOVE ACTUALLY much?). I like the way her umbrella is red, too, as though she’s already acquired love. I also like the pop of color from her black and white dress and appreciate the pattern, since it’s opposite of the hearts’ pattern. Black is a lot more somber than red, so it makes me wonder if the girl is sad and falling in love, or if it was solely used to look good against all the red. I also like the way the typography is all in black to match the dress. Finally, the subtext reads, “The path to love isn’t always a straight shot.” I like how the image of the girl and her umbrella are aligned in a completely straight image (especially the top of the umbrella), while the hearts are of every shape and size, not to mention going in every direction! Brilliant cover. It really stands out!

Why I Love This Cover:

The cover for PAST PERFECT by Leila Sales also uses a rain theme. I love the way the rain is drawn onto a blackboard and she’s not actually in the rain. Her expression is ADORABLE as she pretends to catch raindrops, from her closed eyes to her tongue to the way her hands are clutching her raincoat! Speaking of her raincoat, it’s the perfect shade of green—and so shiny, too. I love it! She also has an adorable daisy in her hair. I like the way the designer took the green from her coat and used it to color the author’s name, albeit making it a more pastel hue. The pink of the title really pops against all the black, and I like the way it’s both a pale and a dark hue, matching the two tones of green.

What do you think? What cover are you crazy about this week?

[PAST PERFECT is scheduled to launch October 4, 2011. STRUCK, a three-book omnibus bind-up, will come out December 6, 2011.]
