Happy (Belated) Book Day to...

EPOCA: THE TREE OF ECROF
by Kobe Bryant & Ivy Claire!

There have been SO MANY amazing books coming out this month that it has been hard to keep track of them all.

Today, I want to spotlight EPOCA: THE TREE OF ECROF, the first in a new series created by basketball legend Kobe Bryant and co-written by Ivy Claire. This is the third series to release this year from Bryant's new publishing company Granity Studios, and all three series blend sports and fantasy -- and they are all SO gorgeous in person!

I LOVE the idea behind this series and this world so much. There aren't enough novels centered around sports -- and especially not in fantasy! I love that Bryant is breaking new ground and giving kids, teens, and even adults something so new and different.

To be honest, I'm not a huge reader of books featuring sports unless the sport interests me, but I want to read all of these now -- and I wouldn't have said that until EPOCA. I grew up loving middle-grade novels about horseback riding, ice skating, gymnastics, and swimming. I also love reading Miranda Kenneally's Hundred Oaks series because we need more books starring female athletes. And okay, I still love books featuring horses and ice skaters and gymnasts and swimmers, not gonna lie.

When Granity Studios sent me an ARC of Kobe Bryant's first creation, THE WIZENARD SERIES: TRAINING CAMP, co-written by Wesley King, I thought the idea was really cool and I planned to recommend the book to sports readers, but I didn't actually plan to read it myself because basketball isn't my thing. And the book was LONG. (In retrospect, it's not, because there are 4 or 5 smaller segments bound into one book, but it looks daunting, you know?) When the finished copy came, it was BEAUTIfUL and made me wish I wanted to read it.

Then, Granity Studios sent me a second book that was also first in a series created by Bryant, LEGACY AND THE QUEEN, co-written by Annie Matthew. I don't know much about tennis, either, but the summary talked about magical kingdoms and had this enticing fantasy vibe. The finished copy was, again, gorgeous, but I just didn't have time in my reading schedule to add it in.

Granity Studios thankfully decided to try one more time and sent me EPOCA: THE TREE OF ECROF, which just came out this week. Magic powers! Crown princesses! Evil at the Academy! Saving the world! Okay, yes, please, give me! I don't have time in my reading schedule for another couple of weeks, but EPOCA is sitting at the top of my pile and waiting so patiently.

I wanted to do a design analysis video for you all today to finally bring these books to your attention. I did one for WIZENARD that I don't think I ever posted, and did one that I definitely never posted for both WIZENARD and LEGACY together. I was ready to finally show you all three of these beauties. I literally filmed a video this morning, even. Then, I started reading the summaries again and seeing all this talk about the Academy. So I wondered, are these series actually intertwined? I started to google it (And got lost on YouTube, hence the very late post today!), and found this amazing livestream from NBA Action featuring Bryant and Claire as they talk about EPOCA:

Listening to these two talk, I realized that all three series take place in one world, though they are each, at least at the moment, self-contained. It sounds like later on, the series will become interconnected and form a larger picture. This makes me want to read all of the books, of course! Plus, Claire mentioned that the sequel to EPOCA will have a lot of swimming in it, and I've always had a soft spot for books featuring swimmers, so there's also that. ^.~

I was already planning to read EPOCA, and now I want to read all three series. I'm excited to share my thoughts with you as I read these books!

I definitely wanted to highlight them today and put them on your radar now that the gift-giving season has begun. These books are BEAUTIFUL and I really want to do a full cover design analysis video showing them off. For now, I settled on doing a highlight overview today on Instagram, which I will be uploading shortly, so keep an eye on @abackwardsstory today!
