Interviewing F.C. Yee, author of THE RISE OF KYOSHI, which breathes new life into the world of AVATAR THE LAST AIRBENDER!

Today, I'm interviewing F.C. Yee over at BroadwayWorld! I'm REALLY excited to share our chat with you guys. I have a been a fan of Avatar the Last Airbender for years and I was so intrigued when they announced that they were going to do a YA prequel series revolving around Avatar Kyoshi!

I've already read the book and can't wait to share my thoughts with you later this week; it has been hard sitting on them! But at least I finally get to share this interview with you.

THE RISE OF KYOSHI just came out last week and is available in stores everywhere right now! There's even a Barnes and Noble Exclusive Edition featuring exclusive collectors' art with commentary from the author, including a cover evolution and a map of the Avatar universe.

I feel really fortunate and lucky that I was able to chat with F.C. Yee about the book's release for BroadwayWorld. From talking about the development process to favorite scenes, it was so much fun!

Here's a snippet of what you'll see in the full interview.

How much wiggle room did you have when it came to fleshing out Kyoshi's life and the people who surrounded her?

I had all the room in the world! Michael Dante DiMartino, Nick editor Joan Hilty, and Abrams editor Anne Heltzel let me pitch my own conceptions of the character and a ton of my own ideas during the outlining phase. As long as the ideas were internally consistent with the universe and could lead to an interesting story, they were fair game. I had a tremendous amount of leeway when it came to humans, history, and motivations, and for that I’m grateful to Mike for the trust he gave me.
