Top Thirteen Books I Picked Up at BEA!

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.
Every once in a while I participate in this one when I either
1) Like the theme, and/or 2) Have the time!

This week's topic:
Top Thirteen Books I Got at the Book Expo Last Week!

This week's Top Ten Tuesday topic is... I'm not sure what it is. I'm doing my own! Because who doesn't want to hear about cool, new titles?

In no particular order...

1) THE STARLESS SEA by Erin Morgenstern
Out Nov. 5, 2019

I  went into BEA knowing that if I could only get one book, it would be this one. THE NIGHT CIRCUS is one of my all-time favorite books, and I've been craving a new book from Erin Morgenstern for years. Plus, a book about a library!? I would have wanted it anyway! I knew my chances were low, too, because copies were rare and being dropped secretly, about five at a time. Luckily, my friend / roommate knew how badly I've been coveting this and grabbed me a copy the second she saw it!

2) THERE WILL COME A DARKNESS by Katy Rose Pool
Out Sept. 3, 2019

I wanted this when a Fierce Reads publicity email comped it to one of my favorite YA fantasies, GRACELING. I wanted it even more when the author was a keynote speaker at a Fierce Reads get-together AND a publicist comped it to a beloved TV series, Avatar: The Last Airbender. Plus, the cover is GORGEOUS -- also metallic and shiny!

3) THE STORM CROW by Kalyn Josephson
Out July 9, 2019

I've been hearing about this once since Fairyloot sent ARCs in a semi-recent subscription box. It has been all over social media for months. When I heard that the author would be signing hardcovers a month early at BEA and the first printing would have this gorgeous design hiding beneath the jacket? I made sure this was a BEA priority for me!

4) A KITE FOR MOON by Jane Yolen, Heidi E.Y. Stemple, and Matt Phelan
Out Now!

I had never heard of this picture book and picked it up because I promised G. a present. Plus, I adore Jane Yolen. This book is an instant classic, reminiscent of THE GIVING TREE, almost. And it's PERFECT to read in July as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the first moon landing! I already filmed a picture book review, which I'll post on YouTube closer to the anniversary!

5) A TREASON OF THORNS by Laura E. Weymouth
Out Sept. 10, 2019

Blurbed as for fans of CARAVAL!? I'm already in! Paired with that cover? Sold!

6) THE TEN THOUSAND DOORS OF JANUARY by Alix E. Harrow
Out Sept. 10, 2019

1) THAT COVER. It made me stop and take notice and pick up a copy knowing nothing.
2) Tamora Pierce blurbed this. When she blurbs anything, I must own it.
3) Books about BOOKS!? I am ALL in!

7) TWICE IN A BLUE MOON by Christina Lauren
Out Oct. 22, 2019

A new book from Christina Lauren? Let's be real, I don't even need to know the plot!

8) JINXED by Amy McCulloch
Out Jan. 1, 2020

I have been following and supporting Amy since her debut and imported her duology from the UK when the US was taking too long to catch up. I'm so excited I got to meet her! One of the ultimate BEA highlights for me! I'm so glad the show highlighted it on the coveted Middle-Grade Buzz Panel and helped make the industry aware of this amazing talent!

9) New DC INK LINE!
TEEN TITANS: RAVEN by Kami Garcia
HARLEY QUINN: BREAKING GLASS by Mariko Tamaki
BLACK CANARY: IGNITE by Meg Cabot
Out July 2, 2019; Sept. 3, 2019; out Nov. 5, 2019

I am not a huge comic book reader, but this new DC Ink line looks so cute, and I'm glad they're being written by popular YA authors! I got to meet all three authors...I GOT TO MEET MEG CABOT!!!!! (There aren't enough exclamation marks in the world for that sentence!) I'm going to start with TEEN TITANS because I used to watch that show like crazy. Raven was my favorite character, and her character/story arc hooked me permanently after I started casually watching the show.

10) STARGAZING by Jen Wang
Out Sept. 10, 2019

I loved THE PRINCE AND THE DRESSMAKER,  and was really excited to meet Jen Wang at BEA and see more about her new title!

11) THE ABLES: THE HERO'S JOURNEY by Jeremy Scott
Out Today! Happy Book Day!

SUPERHEROES WITH DISABILITIES, Y'ALL! I am going to recommend this like crazy. I'm already in love, and I haven't even read it yet!

This is a single issue; it's compiled into one volume TODAY with a second volume releasing in the fall. I never would have discovered this if I hadn't been with a friend. There will be a middle-grade graphic novel line and A YA novel line.

12) REBEL by Marie Lu
Out Oct. 1, 2019

Okay, I'm not going to read this because I don't read samplers. But to just MEET Marie Lu, whom I've been reading since her debut and tell her how much her books have meant to me? That moment was PRICELESS and a highlight of my entire week! I can't wait to pick up REBEL this fall and unite the worlds of LEGEND and WARCROSS!

13) LOKI: WHERE MISCHIEF LIES by Mackenzi Lee
Out  Sept. 3, 2019

I was lucky enough to attend Disney's annual dinner. An author sits at each table, and I had the loveliest chat with her and her Marvel publicist. It made me really excited to see where this new line is going. Plus, Loki!
