New movie reimagines Cinderella with musical elements from James Corden and the writer of Pitch Perfect!

Love fairy tales and mythology?
Fans of mermaids, dragons, unicorns, and other mythical creatures?
Enjoy when a beloved classic tale is retold?
A Twist in the Tail Thursdays features all this and more!

So today for A Twist in the Tail Thursday, I want to share some exciting news I heard earlier this month!

As you all know, two of my favorite things are fairy tales and musicals. When you combine the two, you have all of my favorite things in one place! (I mean, there is a REASON that out of every musical in the world, Into the Woods is my favorite...)

Did you love the Pitch Perfect franchise? The little movie that could and did, going on to spawn two sequels and launching careers in new ways for many of its actors, especially Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson. The movie isn't a musical, per say, but it has a lot of musical numbers and elements.

Earlier this month, news broke that Pitch Perfect writer Kay Cannon will be writing and directing a new imagining of the beloved fairy tale Cinderella. She recently made her directorial debut in the movie Blockers.

Grammy nominated Singer Camilla Cabello is tapped to star in the leading role -- and appear on the already-announced soundtrack. She was first in the band Fifth Harmony before branching out on her own, where she has made a name for herself and even found a #1 single in her hit song "Havana."

The movie will be produced by The Late Late Show host James Corden, who came up with the initial concept for the new take on Cinderella. Corden is known for his role as The Baker in the recent Disney movie adaptation of the successful Stephen Sondheim musical Into the Woods. He is also well known for his popular Carpool Karaoke features from his late night show. He has even hosted the 2016 Tony Awards honoring Broadway's best and greatest and returns to his role as host this year on June 9, 2019.

There isn't much known about this new adaptation of Cinderella yet, or even if it will be a full-on musical or just have musical elements. However, Sony feels so strongly about the project that it has been fast-tracked for production and we'll be hearing a lot more about it soon!

I for one am really excited and already need this movie in my life!
