My Top 5 Favorite Books of 2018!

Hi bookworms!

I don't have the energy to do an in-dept Top Books of 2018 by category this year the way I normally do because of how crazy life has been, but I did want to tell you about my Top 5 Books of the Year!

They are....

1) TO KILL A KINGDOM
by Alexandra Christo
(Check out my review!)

I read this last January -- yes, January -- and it stuck with me all year.

A lot of people have said it's my favorite because I always read the "mermaid books" anyway. And it's true, I do. But you know what? I'm HARDER on them. And this is one of my all-time favorite books in the genre and will always be a recommendation now. I just adored it so much, and loved the writing style and was hooked from page one!

2) CHILDREN OF BLOOD AND BONE
by Tomi Adeyemi
(Check out my review!)

Everyone has been talking about this debut novel, and for good reason. The book is FANTASTIC, the world-building is drool-worthy, the action is heart-stopping, and it delivers a powerful message. Bonus: It has a frenemies romance I adore, plus a meddling older brother!

3) LEGENDARY
by Stephanie Garber

(I didn't review this because SPOILERS, so instead, check out my review of CARAVAL!)

CARAVAL was one of my favorite books of 2017, and the fact that LEGENDARY was even better surprised me immensely. I didn't know where the book could go, outside of the hint at the end of the first book, and Tella wasn't my favorite sister going into the book, but oh, this book, this book! Thankfully, it's 2019 now, and the epic conclusion, FINALE, is only 6 months away!

4) THE KISS QUOTIENT
by Helen Hoang

(Reviewed this on BroadwayWorld, but of course, can't find my link! I'll update when I do!)

This one is so good, but don't let the cover deceive you -- it's adult romance, not YA. I reviewed it at BWW rather than here because I know I have a lot of younger blog readers and it's not appropriate. You all know that contemporary isn't usually my thing. The fact that one is in my Top 5 of the YEAR means it's really special! It's about an autistic woman who decides, at thirty years old, to take dating into her own hands. She hires an escort to teach her how to be in a relationship and the rest is history... I'm so excited for 2019's THE BRIDE TEST, starring a secondary character from this book!

5) WILLA OF THE WOOD
by Robert Beatty
(Check out my review!)

I have my fingers crossed that this will receive a Newbery Honor later this month. I didn't expect this book to be anything but average, tbh. And instead, it slayed me and had me in tears. It is so moving, so emotional, and I was SO invested. There aren't enough words for how good this book was!

So there you have it! Three YA fantasy novels, one contemporary romance, and one middle-grade ...historical magic realism? You can tell my heart is in fantasy, but all of these are brilliant, so add them to your TBR now if you haven't read them yet!
