Title: DEAD LITTLE MEAN GIRL
Author: Eva DarrowsRelease Date: March 28, 2017
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
WHY?
This book is about a girl who really dislikes her evil stepsister, but still goes sleuthing around figuring out why she died. Emma doesn't start looking into Quinn's life and what made her the way she was until after she died. The more she uncovers, the more she learns.
I do like books that look at the psychology of characters, especially as they pull a puzzle of a person together piece by piece. As you saw in my post the other day, I prefer this style of mystery to the traditional type largely found in the genre. (Okay, and maybe DEAD LITTLE MEAN GIRL is going to be less of a mystery than the other books we've portrayed this week, but it's one of the few on my 2017 list, and I can't wait to read it and unearth the puzzle of Emma and Quinn!)
I've gotta say...I also like that the book is about a girl who's a little more quiet and content to sit at home playing video games, because I've been known to do this as well! ^.~
And I LOVE that the cover is illustrated and that Emma's shirt says, "Every girl has a story worth hearing." It's a good shirt quote, but it's also a tagline to pick up the story and the illustrator put it in the BEST place! LOVE IT!!
SUMMARY:
Quinn Littleton was a mean girl—a skinny blonde social terrorist in stilettos. She was everything Emma MacLaren hated. Until she died.
A proud geek girl, Emma loves her quiet life on the outskirts, playing video games and staying off the radar. When her nightmare of a new stepsister moves into the bedroom next door, her world is turned upside down. Quinn is a queen bee with a nasty streak who destroys anyone who gets in her way. Teachers, football players, her fellow cheerleaders—no one is safe.
Emma wants nothing more than to get this girl out of her life, but when Quinn dies suddenly, Emma realizes there was more to her stepsister than anyone ever realized.
A meaningful and humorous exploration of teen stereotypes and grief, DEAD LITTLE MEAN GIRL examines the labels we put on people and what lies beyond if we're only willing to look closer.
