Halloween Memories
by Jennifer L. ArmentroutSome of my favorite Halloween costumes were:
The standard mummy costume, but we didn’t use toilet paper. My mom had rigged up the costumes with ace bandages. Stayed on a lot better. Another year I was a witch and then a vampire. But my favorite costume was when me and my brother dressed up as punk rockers. We had tie-dyed hair and KISS make up. It was really cool.
But the best costume came when I was older—too old to trick or treat. I would give out candy, but just answering the door was boring for a teenager, so we had to come up with something. About a week before Halloween, we would put a stuffed dummy out on the front porch swing. The dummy would have on an old pair of men’s pants and flannel shirt. We’d use a basketball for the head, put a mask over it and then a hat. The neighborhood kids would get used to seeing the dummy as they went to their bus stops or to the corner market. Then, about a half an hour before trick or treating started, I would switch places with the dummy. Put the clothes on, the mask, and sit in the exact same position. My mom would put the bowl of candy in my lap and when kids started to come in, she would tell them that they had to get the candy themselves. Of course, I waited until their hand was in the bowl before I moved or grab their hand. I think I had more fun doing that than trick or treating.

Quickfire Q&A!
After writing the series from Alex’s POV, what challenges did you face writing from Aiden’s POV in Elixir?
Um…seriously girl, if I ever hear “My Seth” again, I may puke. Is there anything about that time that you want to remember?
Ashtyn is the girl in me who, in high school, wanted to be on the football team. Unfortunately I was too insecure to be the only girl on the team. I wish I could do it over again because I would have definitely been on that field! I guess I’m reliving that dream by writing Ashtyn!
Where does your strength come from? Standing up to Alex and even the Gods, you were a rock during Elixir. How did you do it?
For Seth –
During the time where you didn’t know where Alex was, what were you doing to find her?

All the rumors you heard about her state aren’t true. Well, mostly. When she's not hard at work writing, she spends her time, reading, working out, watching zombie movies, and pretending to write.
She is the author of the Covenant Series (Spencer Hill Press), the Lux Series (Entangled Teen), DON'T LOOK BACK (Disney/Hyperion) and a yet untitled novel (Disney/Hyperion), and new YA paranormal series with Harlequin Teen.
Jennifer also writes New Adult and Adult romance under the pen name J. Lynn. The Gamble Brothers Series (TEMPTING THE BEST MAN/TEMPTING THE PLAYER) and WAIT FOR YOU. Under her pen name, she is published with Entangled Brazen and HarperCollins.
