Amber Argyle is blessed to have beautiful, breath-taking covers for all of her books.
Amber's first designer, Eve Ventrue, was unable to make a cover for WINTER QUEEN during the time frame permitted, so Laura Sava took over. View the rest of her artwork on Deviant Art!
Her newest novel, WINTER QUEEN, is no exception, and perhaps my favorite of her covers so far:
WINTER QUEEN by Amber Argyle
Beautiful, beautiful! Perhaps in part because it's PURPLE, a color that is my weakness.
But I also love the sheerness of that dress and all the complex imagery going on in the background that is lost amidst the smaller size of the cover.
For example, just LOOK at the teasers Amber Argyle has been teasing on her blog all week leading up to this reveal:
If you click that image or visit Amber's blog, you'll see even bigger images of those four fairies, but you almost don't see them at all when you look at the cover as a whole. Seeing them up close and personal is a reminder of just how much work went into the design for WINTER QUEEN. The texture of the wings is different on every single one of those fairies. I think the bottom two are my favorites, made up of frost and ice shards. So gorgeous! This feels like a book I'd want to see in person and not on my nook if only to see the true depth and glory of this cover.
Plus, nook books don't show me spines and back jackets, and WINTER QUEEN is promising me a full design here:
Also, you have a chance to win a REALLY COOL PRIZE from Amber Argyle!
See these two fairies on the back cover and the front flap?
You have the opportunity to name them both!
According to Amber, the two fairies are
"from the last book in the series (DAUGHTER OF WINTER). I'll choose my favorite sometime next week. To participate, leave your favorite names in the comments of the following posts:"

Becoming a winter queen will make Ilyenna as cold and cruel and deadly as winter itself, but it might be the only way to save her people from a war they have no hope of winning.
Mortally wounded during a raid, seventeen-year-old Ilyenna is healed by winter fairies who present her with a seductive offer: become one of them and share their power over winter. But that power comes with a price. If she accepts, she will become a force of nature, lose her humanity, and abandon her family.
Unwilling to pay such a high price, Ilyenna is enslaved by the one of the invaders, Darrien. While in captivity, she learns the attack wasn’t just a simple raid but part of a larger plot to overthrow her entire nation.
With the enemy stealing over the mountains and Darrien coming to take her to his bed, Ilyenna must decide whether to resurrect the power the fairies left behind. Doing so will allow her to defeat Darrien and the other invaders, but if she embraces winter, she will lose herself to that destroying power—forever.

What a fantastic blog post! You covered pretty much everything (even better than I did!).
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bonnie!

That cover is probably the most beautiful cover for a book that I have EVER seen!! If I was creative enough to try naming those two fairies I would, but alas, I am not quite as gifted as I might like to be... but seriously, the artwork is breathtaking!! I'm definitely checking this book out more now (not to be a cliche by judging from a cover or anything...)
