Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. Every once in a while I participate in this one when I either 1) Like the theme, and/or 2) Have the time! |
This week's topic:
Top {Fifteen} Must-Read Titles This Fall
This is a mix of books I have sitting at my bedside waiting to be read, ARCs from publishers for review that I'm intrigued by, and books I'm just coveting! And...maybe I'm a little over ten this week. Because what's another five when you're excited about books? You're just lucky I stopped there...!
These are in no particular order by the way, guys! Just as they come to mind!
I've wanted to read this for a while now, and even more so now that it's the book everyone's talking about. I need to read this before it gets spoiled for me! I wanted to read DARK PLACES when it came out in hardcover, but didn't have time before it was due back at the library. Gillian Flynn still intrigues me. I'm ready to begin reading her now!
2) CROWN OF EMBERS by Rae Carson {Out Sept. 18}
Only two more weeks. I'm coveting this so very, very badly. Have you seen my review of THE GIRL OF FIRE AND THORNS? If you're a fan of high fantasy and/or authors such as Kristin Cashore and Tamora Pierce, trust me: You'll want to read this series!
I'm taking part in the blog tour to this one, so look forward to that! I've been looking forward to this book for so long, in part because of its Asian influence. I'm really excited that the official release is finally on the horizon!
I'm pretty sure that Jennifer Armentrout is secretly a magical fairy in real life. There is NO other way she can produce so many quality novels for me to love. I really enjoyed the first two novels in this mythological series, HALF-BLOOD and PURE, and can't wait to read DEITY!
5) FALLING KINGDOMS by Morgan Rhodes {Out Dec. 11}
I am seriously drooling all over my shiny ARC of this one. This sounds like just the sort of fantasy I'm going to devour and fall in love with. Plus, the cover is GORGEOUS!
6) ELEMENTAL by Antony John {Out Nov. 21}
Another ARC I'm pleased to have. I love books revolving around elemental magic, so I've been looking forward to this one. I enjoyed Antony John's award-winning novel FIVE FLAVORS OF DUMB and am intrigued by the fact that he's writing fantasy now instead of contemporary fiction.
...And since I'm reading in reverse "best" order, that means I need to finish PAPER TOWNS, then move on to AN ABUNDANCE OF KATHERINES and LOOKING FOR ALASKA before I can reach this goal. But since I'm apparently the only person on the planet who hasn't read this yet (not for lack of trying...I bought a signed copy back in January!), it will happen before the year ends. Seriously. IT WILL.
8) SON by Lois Lowry {Out Oct. 2}
Before doing this, I want to re-read THE GIVER, GATHERING BLUE, and THE MESSENGER first. But now I have a reason to make time to do what I've been wanting to for a couple of years now, right? I'm in love with this series and I'm so excited to see the way Lois Lowry will wrap everything up for us.
Because how can a year go by without my Percy Jackson fix? Every time I see a pre-order poster around for this or a new blog entry from Rick Riordan, I get excited all over again!
10) VESSEL by Sarah Beth Durst {Out Sept. 11}
I am enamored with Sarah Beth Durst. I've reviewed ICE, ENCHANTED IVY, and DRINK, SLAY, LOVE on here. The cover for VESSEL is breath-takingly gorgeous, and it sounds like it might become my favorite Sarah Beth Durst book yet! I'll be doing a couple of special features on the blog when this releases, so look forward to a great release party at A Backwards Story!
11) THE TIME KEEPER by Mitch Albom {Out today!
I'm a huge fan of Mitch Albom and have enjoyed all of his books. TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE is even in my Top Ten All-Time Favorites list! This new book is a whimsical tale revolving around Father Time, and I love fables, so I'm intrigued to see where he goes next.
12) THE HUNDRED THOUSAND KINGDOMS Trilogy by N.K. Jemisin {Out now}
This fantasy series sounds really intriguing, plus I've seen it mentioned around as an example of good books in the genre. I'm ready be swept away by something, epic, new, and best of all...finished!
The second book in the trilogy is releasing soon, so I'd like to read this one first. I'd also like to read his Night Angel trilogy at some point. Brent Weeks is often mentioned when people talk about the best modern-day fantasy authors out there writing.
I adore Jessica Day George, especially when she's writing fairy tales. PRINCESS OF THE MIDNIGHT BALL and PRINCESS OF GLASS were both fun reads, and I'm looking forward to seeing the way George concludes the happily ever afters of everyone I've grown to love.
15) IRON-HEARTED VIOLET by Kelly Barnhill {Out Oct. 9}
This is yet another book with a super-gorgeous cover. While I can be iffy on dragons, if you add in princesses and danger, you'll have one intrigued girl!
I can't wait to see what everyone else has chosen!
Even at fifteen, it was hard to stop...
