WHY?

I remember hearing Ellen Oh's name thrown around at some point, whether it was when the book sold, on Twitter, or somewhere else.  I don't really remember.  I feel as though GoodReads didn't have a page on it at the time, so I forgot about the book.  Then I saw this gorgeous cover (And, okay, at first I was looking at a tiny image and thought I was staring at an apple in the middle and thinking, "Oh, hey, Snow White!" *cough*).

The summary sounds completely kick-ass, though.  It's high fantasy, one of the genres I love best.  The book sounds like it will be for readers who like Kristin Cashore (GRACELING, FIRE, BITTERBLUE), Leigh Bardugo (SHADOW AND BONE, which is, um, amazing), Alison Goodman (EON, EONA), Cinda Williams Chima (The Heir Chronicles, the Seven Realms series),  Cindy Pon (SILVER PHOENIX, FURY OF THE PHOENIX), and more.

It just sounds amazing, like an all-consuming, epically sweeping fantasy.  Plus, it has an Asian (this time Korean) flare, which always intrigues me.  And...I'm pretty sure I just built this book up too much in my head, so I'm going to stop thinking about it now because I just want to enjoy it.
SUMMARY:

The greatest warrior in all of the Seven Kingdoms... is a girl with yellow eyes.

Kira’s the only female in the king’s army, and the prince’s bodyguard. She’s a demon slayer and an outcast, hated by nearly everyone in her home city of Hansong. And, she’s their only hope...

Murdered kings and discovered traitors point to a demon invasion, sending Kira on the run with the young prince. He may be the savior predicted in the Dragon King Prophecy, but the missing treasure of myth may be the true key. With only the guidance of the cryptic prophecy, Kira must battle demon soldiers, evil shaman, and the Demon Lord himself to find what was once lost and raise a prince into a king.

Intrigue and mystery, ancient lore and action-packed fantasy come together in this heart-stopping first book in a trilogy.

What are you anxiously waiting for this Wednesday?

  1. I've been hunting for something in High Fantasy to tide me over until either Rothfuss or Martin kick out their next novel - great pick!

    1. I'm still making my way through THE NAME OF THE WIND. I need to pick it up again soon! Ugh, and as much as I want to, I'm waiting to read Martin until he's in the final stages of Book 7. I'm very forgetful and don't have enough time to re-read, what, 5,000 pages when Book 6 comes out, then 6,000 when Book 7 does. So for now, I'll wait. I decided this before 5 ever released and before it was on HBO!
