Word Count Wednesday is my way of sharing my weekly writing progress with you and holding myself accountable for not giving up.
So without further ado, this week's "Word Count" for Super-Secret Project/Codename: FIZZYPOP:
(Why Fizzypop? IDEK...it sounds fun!)
This week: 14 pages
Total to Date: 134? pages (Must have it all typed soon so I can give you REAL data!)
Start Date: March 2, 2011
How far is this in terms of a word count? I'm not sure. I get 150-400 words per page depending on how small I'm writing and/or how many cross-outs I have. (Plus, that gets me an extra round of editing!)
Big news, bookworms: I ran out of pages in my notebook! True story! I filmed it to show you, too, because this is totally a momentous occasion:

My Soul Twin Ashley helped me yet again this week. I was trying to figure out what my MC was reading in class, and I was looking for something specific. It ties in to the third major event in the story (which I had still be scrambling to figure out). I was talking to Ashley on the phone and I completely misheard her suggestion. (As some of you know, I'm slightly hearing-impaired.) ANYWAY, because I misheard her, I came up with an author that's just PERFECT. Ash started mentioning a scene from the text that would fit in perfectly and I knew it was just right.
I got so excited, you guys! Everything is finally coming together. And now I have all of my major events planned out (I think...still not 100% sold on the climax just yet).
For those of you wondering about the writing life, here's a sample of how ideas come and go:
On Thursday morning, I got the idea for the third big event. I was THRILLED, because it tied in to something that happened in the second chapter, which I wrote *forever* ago. I knew that it was perfect and just what I needed, though it wasn't the type of event I was initially going to go with.
Anyway, I start writing like crazy (Not THAT EVENT, of course, but more of Chapter Eight. I'm putting in events that will lead up to the big one and make it seem more natural when it occurs later). I had to be at work that morning, so at 9:30 am, I make my way over to work. All day long, all I want to do is write. ALL DAY. But I worked until 6 p.m. And then I went out to dinner. And then to the movies. I had been up ridiculously early and was beyond exhausted when I got home. No energy to write.
So the next day, I forget if I was working late, or not working at all... Anyway, I had all this free time to write, and what do I do? I write a page and a half. Yeah... That's how flimsy a writing muse can be. You can be so psyched and want to write so badly, but there are times it just won't come...and other times when the urge is inappropriate.
I got a little more out this week, but I'd been hoping for a slightly better week after that burst of inspiration hit. Today, I started to write, then thought, "Let me turn on the PS3 and see if there was a good update yesterday. No? Let me play one game of Critter Crunch. Just...one...game.... I can so do better than Level 10! Rematch!" (Repeat) And then I wanted to eat. And then I wanted to do nothing. I finally started writing again an hour or so ago. *rolls eyes at self* Maybe this coming week will be better...
I'm excited, though. My goal was to at least fill my notebook this week, and I did that. And then a few pages. ^___^
That's how my week went! Do you have a WIP at the moment? What was your word count this week? To date? Let's support one another! This week, I hope you were as inspired as me!!!
That's SO exciting! Awesome video of your all the way full notebook! You are that much closer to it being done so I can read it!! :)
ReplyDelete<3s to my soul twin!!
YAY! That's freaking awesome chick! <3

Congrats!!! That's so exciting. I love hearing about your writing process. I would probably be a very linear writer (which is another reason why I'd SUCK at writing fiction), so it's extra fascinating to see how you jump around and still make it all work together. I can't wait to read this book!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that it's all coming together so great and the ideas are coming along, you'll have that notebook full in no time. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteSounds like things are coming together. I'm extra excited for you and your project.
ReplyDelete@Ash: I know you want my notebook ^.~ I have to fill another up so you can see it soon!
ReplyDelete@The Other Ash, aka Bookish (lol): Thanks!!! <3
@Small: Every week, your comments make me so happy. I tend to be a linear writer, too, though I can skip around when the need arises. And I like to see where I'm going in my head, though I don't outline (because once it's written, I don't like to change the idea!)
@Lena: Thank you so much! I'm always so happy to see your encouragement <3
@Gina: I am in a much better place now than I was the last time we chatted. I hope to talk to you again soon! ^_^
