Can't Wait For...THE SECRET COMMONWEALTH by Philip Pullman (Book of Dust, Volume 2)

Can't-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings to spotlight and discuss the books we're excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they're books that have yet to be released. It's based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by the fabulous Jill at Breaking the Spine.

Hi Bookworms!

Guess what, guess what? This week, Philip Pullman's publisher officially revealed information about THE SECRET COMMONWEALTH, book two in The Book of Dust trilogy that he has been promising for yeas since first writing His Dark Materials trilogy (Which began with THE GOLDEN COMPASS [US Title] / NORTHERN LIGHTS [UK Title]). The first book in the new trilogy, La Belle Sauvage, came out in 2017.

Have you seen the cover yet? Do you WANT to? I have it here to share today. I'm just so incredibly excited!

I'm ALSO really excited for the new mini-series that BBC and HBO are co-producing, which I've been following since it was announced, and it finally will launch later this year! I'll include a trailer below if you haven't seen it yet!

THE COVER:

Left: US Cover                                                    Right: UK Cover

Which do you prefer?
I like the bright pop of the UK cover, but I also like the old-fashioned feel of the US cover!

Title:  THE BOOK OF DUST: THE SECRET COMMONWEALTH
Author: Philip Pullman
Release Date: Oct. 3, 2019
Publisher: Alfred A. Knopf / Random House Penguin

SUMMARY:

It is twenty years since the events of La Belle Sauvage: The Book of Dust Volume One unfolded and saw the baby Lyra Belacqua begin her life-changing journey.

It is seven years since readers left Lyra and the love of her young life, Will Parry, on a park bench in Oxford's Botanic Gardens at the end of the ground-breaking, bestselling His Dark Materials sequence. Now, in The Secret Commonwealth, we meet Lyra Silvertongue. And she is no longer a child . . .

The second volume of Sir Philip Pullman's The Book of Dust sees Lyra, now twenty years old, and her daemon Pantalaimon, forced to navigate their relationship in a way they could never have imagined, and drawn into the complex and dangerous factions of a world that they had no idea existed.

Pulled along on his own journey too is Malcolm; once a boy with a boat and a mission to save a baby from the flood, now a man with a strong sense of duty and a desire to do what is right.

Theirs is a world at once familiar and extraordinary, and they must travel far beyond the edges of Oxford, across Europe and into Asia, in search for what is lost - a city haunted by daemons, a secret at the heart of a desert, and the mystery of the elusive Dust.
