Have you discovered Uni yet? Uni is an amazing unicorn who believes that little girls are REAL when none of the other unicorns do and beats to the sound of her own drum. She believes that dreams can come true and that if she wishes hard enough, anything is possible!

I first heard about Uni the Unicorn at the 2017 Book Expo (BEA) this past June. Random House was handing out adorable tote bags with a unicorn on them that said "Believe." I managed to miss the tote drop, but got one when we decided to wander around BookCon for a little bit Saturday morning. I also snagged a cute unicorn horn for my three-year-old niece!

After returning home and going to the bookstore, I saw UNI THE UNICORN on a display and realized that the book was already out. It was a SEQUEL that was coming out. I was a little surprised, because Amy Krouse Rosenthal sadly passed away earlier this year. I'm so glad she left a sequel behind, UNI THE UNICORN AND THE DREAM COME TRUE. I hate reading the bio at the back, however, because it still talks about her in the present tense and feels like a mean rub, though I can see not wanting to expose kids to death through book flap biographies!

I really love the way the two picture books bookend one another. Uni wishes and wishes and wishes to meet the little girl that she KNOWS is real. And somewhere, there IS a little girl who believes in unicorns when everybody else just laughs. In the sequel, these two believers meet and save the Land of Unicorns from peril through their beautiful belief! The message is phenomenal and teaches kids that even when everybody else says no or laughs at your dreams/beliefs, if you keep on believing, anything becomes possible!

Here's my video review of the duology, with a closer look at some of the great art you'll find in the two books:

An original picture book about a unicorn from bestselling author Amy Krouse Rosenthal (Plant a Kiss).

In this clever twist on the age-old belief that there’s no such thing as unicorns, Uni the unicorn is told there’s no such thing as little girls! No matter what the grown-up unicorns say, Uni believes that little girls are real. Somewhere there must be a smart, strong, wonderful, magical little girl waiting to be best friends. In fact, far away (but not too far), a real little girl believes there is a unicorn waiting for her. This refreshing and sweet story of friendship reminds believers and nonbelievers alike that sometimes wishes really can come true.

The Land of Unicorns is in trouble -- it has been raining and raining for what seems like forever. This is a big problem because there are only three ways that unicorns can get their magic: from the golden sun, from magnificent rainbows, and from the sparkle of believing.

Luckily, Uni the Unicorn has always always always believed...that little girls are REAL. Join this very special unicorn and the little girl who believes right back as they finally meet and work together to save a magical land and all who live there!
