Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. Every once in a while I participate in this one when I either 1) Like the theme, and/or 2) Have the time! |
This week's topic:
Ten Most Recent Books We've Added to our TBR!
Okay, so this is last week's topic. But Mandy and I spun that into our own Wonderland theme and we were sad to miss out on this theme because it's a really cool one!
I think this theme really introduces readers to new books, especially ones that may not be coming out for a long time (or even books that are really old that you've just "discovered" and TBRed!)
So here are ten books we've each added recently to our TBR Lists!
(And thank goodness to Goodreads because it can keep track of this for us!!! I still remember how I used to keep a Word Document before I discovered that site...)
1) THE GILDED WOLVES by Roshani Chokshi
Out: 2018 TBA
2) THE LOVE INTEREST by Cale Dietrich
Out: May 16, 2017
I discovered this one looking at Macmillan's upcoming 2017 catalog. The concept is interesting: In a world where two guys are training to be undercover spies, their graduation mission is to convince a girl they're normal by having her fall in love. The only problem? Only one of them can win and survive....
3) LINTANG AND THE PIRATE QUEEN by Tamara Moss
Out 2017 TBA--atm, just in Australia! ;_;
I've known Tamara Moss a long time and followed her on her long road to publication. (Fun fact! Tamara is also one of Marissa Meyer's crit partners. You should be jealous of her because she gets to read things EARLY and help shape them into the final book that YOU get to read!)
I''m so excited that Tamara has a publishing deal and will be releasing a middle-grade novel featuring mythology and pirates! I just hope Penguin Random House Australia imports the book to the USA so I can read it, too!!!
4) CLOUDBOUND by Fran Wilde
Out NOW!!!
I read UPDRAFT by Fran Wilde recently and reviewed it earlier this month. Immediately after finishing, I added the sequel CLOUDBOUND to my TBR! I picked it up this past weekend at a book signing with the author, so I'm excited to read it soon!
5) DIVIDING EDEN by Joelle Charbonneau
Out June 6, 2017
When I saw the cover reveal for this book, I'd never heard of it! The reveal made me really sit up and take notice. The author previously wrote The Testing series, which I've never read, but have heard good things about. This book sounds like it will be so hard to put down! It's about twins who were never destined to rule--until their parents and elder brother are assassinated. Now they have to fight for the crown and see how far they'll go, when previously, they lived only to protect one another....
6) THE NAMELESS PRINCE by Megan Bannen
Out 2018 TBA
My dream agent is Holly Root, in part because I adore so many of the authors and books she represents. Truth: I follow her on Twitter just so I can find out when she picks up a new author that I might want to read. Her debut was inspired by an ancient Persian poen that lead to the creation of the opera Turandot. It's narrated by a slave and about a cursed princess. We don't know much about it yet, but I already want to read it!!!
7) THE CROWN'S DOG by Elise Kova
Out November 22, 2016
I added this one when Elise Kova mentioned that she was coming out with a prequel trilogy to her popular Air Awakens series. If you like elemental magic, you need to be reading this series!!!! I believe the first book, AIR AWAKENS, is still on sale for 99 cents, but don't quote me on that. The cover also just recently debuted!!! The book is out in less than two weeks, too!!! Not long to wait!
8) ONE DARK THRONE by Kendare Blake
Out 2017 TBA
I recently met Kendare Blake at a book signing and found that the book I'd been anticipating, THREE DARK CROWNS, was the first in a duology. So....I'm gonna wait and read them both together!!!!
9) FROGKISSER! by Garth Nix
Out February 28, 2017
I found out about this one when Garth Nix read an excerpt at his recent book signing for GOLDENHAND that I intended. Garth Nix and fairy tales?????? I WILL TAKE THIS NOW, PLEASE. OKAY, THANKS!!!
10) THE VALIANT by Lesley Livingstone
Out February 14th, 2017
1) CINDERELLA, NECROMANCER by F.M Boughan
Out: September 5th, 2017. Cover TBA
I JUST DISCOVERED THIS ONE TODAY, and omg my twisted fairytale heart is beating with excitement. It's a Cindrella retelling with necromancy, and it seems like it's one of those stories where you're not sure if the main character will end up a hero or a villain.
2) FLAME IN THE MIST by Renee Ahdieh
Out: May 2nd, 2017
The cover for this one caught my eye while I was perusing GoodReads. Samurais, Alchemy, what looks to be a really kickass lead female, oh I will be reading this one. On her way to an arranged marriage, Mariko is nearly killed by a group called the Black Clan. She survives and goes undercover as a boy to try and figure out who put the price on her head. This summary is giving me a lot of really really excited Mulan feels, but with the added edge of political intrigue and not knowing who the bad or good guys are going to be.
3) HEAR THE WOLVES by Victoria Scott
Out March 28th, 2017
It's been a while since I've gotten excited over a good middle-grade survival story. This one reminds me just a tad of Julie of the Wolves, which is one of my favorites from my own middle school reading list. Sloan lives in a small Alaska town that gets isolated during a blizzard. When a neighbor gets injured Sloan and the remaining inhabitants need to make it to a boat on the river which will take them to a doctor. The elements are dangerous enough, but then hungry wolves start hunting them.
4) FROST by M.P. Kozlowsky
Out NOW!!!
Science fiction in a dystopian setting, I was eyeing this book and itching to buy it for aaaages. Frost is alone in a world full of rogue robots and something called Eaters. Her father's memory is alive, uploaded into a robot, warning her not to risk herself by seeking out medicine for her dying pet. Everything about this book feels like exactly what I need to be reading.
5) FURTHURMORE Tahereh Mafi
Out Now!!
DO YOU SEE THIS COVER? DO YOU? It's so gorgeous it hurts my heart. I'd heard a lot about this author's teen series, bur when I found this in the middle grade section I knew I needed to read it soon. The main character, Alice, must travel through a dangerous and magical land to find her beloved father. The world is full of magic and color, both of which Alice seemingly lacks. From what I can tell it's inspired by so many of my favorite childhood fairytales in a vibrant and intriguingly new pattern.
6) MAGONIA by Maria Dahvana Headley
Out Now!!!
Another cover that is so pretty it hurts my eyeballs. Magonia is about a girl who, in our world, suffers from a mysterious lung disease. When she finds herself transported to Magonia, a land above the clouds that functions via trading ships, she can breathe. Not only that but she is powerful. With war fast approaching she has to decide if she will fight for the world where she is strong, or the world where all the humans she loves reside. And I swear I just can't get the imagery of ships in the sky out of my head, I'm way too excited to read this.
7) SNOW LIKE ASHES by Sarah Raasch
Out Now!!!!
8) ONE DARK THRONE by Kendare Blake
Out 2017 TBA
I recently met Kendare Blake at a book signing and found that the book I'd been anticipating, THREE DARK CROWNS, was the first in a duology. So....I'm gonna wait and read them both together!!!!
9) FROGKISSER! by Garth Nix
Out February 28, 2017
I found out about this one when Garth Nix read an excerpt at his recent book signing for GOLDENHAND that I intended. Garth Nix and fairy tales?????? I WILL TAKE THIS NOW, PLEASE. OKAY, THANKS!!!
10) THE VALIANT by Lesley Livingstone
Out February 14th, 2017
This first caught my attention when it was blurbed as being for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Cinda Williams Chima. It might have also mentioned AND I DARKEN by Kiersten White? I forget.... When I saw that it was a historical fantasy with Julius Caesar as a main character and that the girl had to be strong enough to survive in this violent world, I WAS SOLD!!!!
