Longtime Fairy Tale Fortnight fans will recognize author Liz DeJesus, who has been taking part since publishing her debut FIRST FROST, which launches The Frost Series!

When Liz's publisher Musa went out of business, I was so excited to hear that she'd been picked up by Indie Gypsy! Misty and I both leapt at the chance to help reveal her brand-new look to the series!

For those who haven't heard of The Frost Series before, I've previously reviewed FIRST FROST and GLASS FROST.

Since Liz took part in our third FTF event with an excerpt of FIRST FROST, I'm re-posting that excerpt right now...so keep reading if you want to be intrigued!

Bianca got out of her car and ran inside the house. She called for her mother as she searched for her upstairs in all of the rooms. Nothing. She quickly ran downstairs and was ready to go down to the basement when a strange turquoise light caught her eye. She looked out the kitchen window; she couldn’t believe what she saw. Her mother was throwing what Bianca could only describe as balls of turquoise fireballs at a woman wearing a black hood. Bianca couldn’t see the woman’s face, but she could see her pale hands and slender fingers.
Bianca tried to make sense of it all. She kept expecting to see a special effects crew to come out from behind the trees and tell her that it was all part of an elaborate prank. But no such thing happened. All she knew was that a strange turquoise flame was coming out of her mother’s hands.
She knew that her mother sometimes read old dusty books on witchcraft, but she didn’t know she had actual powers. She thought about all the little quirks her mother had. Things that Bianca thought were essentially Rose. Her mother talked to plants and trees. She would sometimes stare off into space as though she were looking at something in another world. Something only she could see. She read tarot cards to random people and would tell them things about his or her life as though she were reading an open book. Bianca always thought she just made really lucky guesses. She chose not to believe in this other world and everything it stood for. Magic represented a life out of the norm, and Bianca desperately wanted to be normal. Just like everyone else.
Bianca pulled herself out of her thoughts. As she looked at the blue and green flashes in the backyard, she quickly realized that this was something she couldn’t escape. Normal was no longer a part of her world. Normal was no longer an option for her.
Bianca didn’t know what to do. She was frozen in place. She was afraid to distract her mother for even a second. She ducked behind the screen door; at least this way she could still hear what they were saying to each other.
“Did you really think I wouldn’t come?” the witch shouted.
“Oh, I knew you’d be back,” Rose replied.
Bianca slowly lifted her gaze and peeked above the screen. She saw her mother standing behind the shed on the left side of their backyard. The witch was still too far away for her to get a good look at her, but Bianca could tell that she was on the far right corner of their yard.
“Where’s the book?” the witch demanded.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Rose replied with a smirk.
“Don’t be coy with me. You know very well what I’m talking about.”
“Sorry. I can’t help you.” Rose’s breathing was becoming more labored and she was drenched in sweat…obvious signs of exhaustion, but Bianca could tell by the look on her mother’s face that she wouldn’t give up.
“The wards in the museum are impressive. I couldn’t get past them. But maybe…she’ll know where the book is,” the witch said as she looked in Bianca’s direction and threw a sickly olive-colored fireball at the screen door.
Bianca shrieked and jumped out of the way. The screen door fell off its hinges and landed on the kitchen floor with a loud thud. “Bianca!” Rose screamed.

FIRST FROST is available on nook and Kindle for $4.99.
What a great deal!

I also sat down with Liz and asked her a couple of questions about her cover news to share with you today! Misty had a full interview with Liz go live this past week!
I also interviewed Liz last year during FTF!

An interview with
Liz DeJesus

Liz DeJesus was born on the tiny island of Puerto Rico. She is a novelist and a poet. She has been writing for as long as she was capable of holding a pen. She is the author of the novel NINA (Blu Phi'er Publishing, October 2007), THE JACKETS (Arte Publico Press, March 31st 2011) FIRST FROST (Musa Publishing, June 22nd 2012) and GLASS FROST (Musa Publishing).

Congratulations on today's cover reveal! Can you tell us a little bit about your amazingly fun new cover?

Thank you so much! I am thrilled to unveil the new covers for all three books. As some of you are aware, the books were originally published through Musa Publishing (who sadly closed their doors on February 28th 2015). Indie Gypsy was kind enough to re-release the books and repackage the whole series.

Now, one of the things I always heard was how FIRST FROST and GLASS FROST didn't really match. I always wanted to have a little bit of cohesiveness between the two books. And Indie Gypsy was amazing and listened to my feedback. Some of you will recognize the model from GLASS FROST. Luckily we were able to use the same image for GLASS FROST. And through a bit of research I was able to find the same model and we used that image for the cover of FIRST FROST.

I had been holding on to the picture of the model seen in the cover of SHATTERED FROST for MONTHS. I'm really pleased with the way everything turned out. I can't wait to go back on the road again and start promoting the books once more.

What went into re-designing the brand new covers for your first two books?

I go to royalty free image websites and search for hours for pictures that I would like to use in the cover. Then I narrow it down to 2 or 3 images. I try to use a single image and not turn my cover into a 'soup' (which is where the cover has a whole bunch of pictures photoshoped into it). I try to ask myself 'What is the most important scene in the book?' and 'What do I want the cover to represent?' And that's what I use as my guiding light when the time comes to let my publisher know what I want on the cover. You have to be able to work together with the cover designer and have a clear vision of what you want the cover to look like. I've been extremely lucky with my publishers and they allow me to have input on the cover design (not every publisher allows the author the amount of freedom I've been given, and for that I wish to thank Musa Publishing and Indie Gypsy).

I wanted to make sure that The Frost Series had covers that belonged together when I put them side by side. That you believed that the girl on the cover is actually Bianca Frost. I still love the original covers, but I'm so excited with the newer covers! I really hope everyone else loves them too.

I also wish to take a moment and thank all of the fans, bloggers and reviewers. Without your support I would never be able to do what I do. It's because of you and your enthusiasm for this series that I've been able to go to conventions, book fairs and book signings. So from the bottom of my heart thank you. Thank you for allowing me to be on this amazing journey. I cannot wait to see what the future will bring.

Fairytales aren’t real…yeah…that’s exactly what Bianca thought. She was wrong.

For generations, the Frost family has run the Museum of Magical and Rare Artifacts, handing down guardianship from mother to daughter, always keeping their secrets to “family only.”

Gathered within museum’s walls is a collection dedicated to the Grimm fairy tales and to the rare items the family has acquired: Cinderella’s glass slipper, Snow White’s poisoned apple, the evil queen’s magic mirror, Sleeping Beauty’s enchanted spinning wheel…

Seventeen-year-old Bianca Frost wants none of it, dreaming instead of a career in art or photography or…well, anything except working in the family’s museum. She knows the items in the glass display cases are fakes because, of course, magic doesn’t really exist. She’s about to find out how wrong she is.

Next up, let's reveal the new look to Book 2, GLASS FROST:
