Cover Crazy (8)

Cover Crazy is hosted by The Book Worms. Each week, bloggers "admire the art and beauty of a book’s design, so I’m going to post minimal words. It is up to you to write how you feel and what you like about it the way you’d like to."

These covers are so, so gorgeous. True works of art. Jillian Tamaki embroidered each and every one of these BY HAND for the launch of Penguin's new imprint, Penguin Threads.

If you go to her blog, you can see full-size images as well as in-progress pictures. These are STUNNING. You want to see bigger images, guys. Then you can see all the time and effort that went into these!

Why I Love These Covers:

What a way to make a classic beautiful all over again. I'm loving the covers coming out of Penguin. Do you remember how much I gushed over Jane Eyre last year? Like Jane Eyre, these paperback releases will have French flaps (as you can see in the images), which is a rare design feature these days. I always love finding French flaps, though! Not only that, I LOVE that these were embroidered by hand. Penguin is going to emboss the images so that it feels like we're running our fingers over thread.

I love all three, but I think The Secret Garden is my favorite of them all. How about you? They're too beautiful not to buy, even if you already have a copy!

What do you think? What cover are you crazy about this week?

[The Secret Garden, Black Beauty, and Emma are scheduled to hit a bookstore near you sometime in October 2011.]
