MY TOP 12 DISCOVERIES OF ALA MIDWINTER ARE....

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.
Every once in a while I participate in this one when I either
1) Like the theme, and/or 2) Have the time!

This week's topic:
My Top Ten Bookish Discoveries of 2019!

Hi bookworms!

I'm going off-topic this week because I was just at the American Library Association's Midwinter Conference in Philadelphia.

(Yes, I got to be in the room where it happened yesterday as they announced all the YALSA Awards, including the Printz, Caldecott, and Newberry!!!!!!)

I know I have been posting book stack piles on Instagram, and it's a lot to look at -- so I decided that today, I wanted to highlight ten books I was thrilled to discover this weekend, as well as the Top 2 Books I knew about going into the conference and was most excited to acquire!

I can't wait to hear your thoughts on these titles! And if you were at ALAMW20, what were your favorite discoveries?

In Order of Release Month...

1) THE UNWILLING by Kelly Braffet (Out Feb 11th)

This one I actually went into the conference highly excited to find! Erin Morgenstern (THE NIGHT CIRCUS, THE STARLESS SEA) has been gushing about it all over social media! Also, her father-in-law is Stephen King. Plus, the summary is so intriguing! Definitely a highly anticipated 2020 release for me!

2) DARLING ROSE GOLD by Stephanie Wrobel (Out March 17th)

This one deals with the aftermath of a victim of Munchausen syndrome by proxy (MSBP) . First, the cover caught my eye, and then the concept. I just watched The Politician on Netflix and The Act on Hulu, so the topic is "in the moment" for me.

3) SUPER ADJACENT by Crystal Cestari (Out March 17th)

If it is about superheroes, I am immediately in, plus, this is something new from the author of the BEST KIND OF MAGIC series! It's about a girl who has always wanted to work with superheroes. When all the superheroes go missing, it is up to her and another girl who wants out of the superhero business to save them! It sounds like so much fun!

4) MERMAID MOON by Susann Cokal (Out March 3rd)

A new book from the author of THE KINGDOM OF LITTLE WOUNDS! A book with mermaids! A book inspired by The Little Mermaid!

A book that will look... like this!?

5) HARLEY IN THE SKY by Akemi Dawn Bowman (Out March 10th)

From the author of STARFISH and SUMMER BIRD BLUE, and it is about a trapeze artist??? Honestly, I don't need to know anything else, I'm sold!

6) THE GLASS MAGICIAN by Caroline Stevermer (Out April 7th)

Again, circuses and magicians. It's truly all I need to hear -- especially when there is a really strong summary to grab my interest!

7) SIN EATER by Megan Campisi (Out April 7th)

I enjoyed THE SIN EATER'S DAUGHTER by Melinda Salisbury. I hadn't heard of sin eaters before that, and the concept is fascinating. I really like the spin on it where this is punishment (sort of like the start of POISON STUDY by Maria V. Snyder). Plus, it's pitched as HANDMAID'S TALE meets ALICE IN WONDERLAND.

8) HOW MUCH OF THESE MILLS IS GOLD by C. Pam Zhang (Out April 7th)

DEBUT! This is Penguin's lead title this spring. The ARC has gold gilded edges and a gorgeous cover.  It takes place during the Gold Rush.  I can't wait  to see a finished copy!

9) THE MERMAID, THE WITCH, AND THE SEA by Maggie Tokuda-Hall (Out May 5th)

If it's about mermaids or fairy tales, I'm one hundred percent in!

10) A SONG OF WRAITHS AND RUIN by Roseanne A. Brown(Out June 2nd)

This one is for fans of Tomi Adeyemi, has a gorgeous cover, and the summary sounds like just the sort of fantasy I like to sink into!

11) A SONG BELOW WATER by Bethany C. Morrow (Out June 2nd)

More mermaids and beautiful covers, lol! Plus, this one tackles some more serious topics! You could only get this galley if you had a coupon from a special booklet. I got lucky!

12) WHERE DREAMS DESCEND by Janella Angelles

Phantom of the Opera meets Moulin Rouge meets ??? Sign me right on up!

This was the other title I went into the conference eager about! Janella Angeles was doing a signing and I was beyond excited to meet her.
