Jenny Han's Best Selling Series TO ALL THE BOYS I'VE LOVED BEFORE to premiere Summer 2018 on Netflix!
Last year, it was announced that Jenny Han's best-selling YA series To All the Boys I've Loved Before was going to be a movie. Filming began last summer, but it was anticipated that the movie would head to the silver screen. Last August, Entertainment Weekly shared exclusive photos from the set that will have fans even more eager for the movie!
This week, Netflix announced that it had acquired To All the Boys I've Loved Before and would debut the movie in its Summer 2018 line-up. Since this is Netflix, the likelihood of seeing the sequels P.S. I Still Love You and Always and Forever, Lara Jean are greater than if it had hit the theaters, where movies often don't get sequels unless they're smash hits.
The movie will star Lana Condor (Jubilee in X-Men: Apocalypse) as Lara Jean Song Covey and Noah Centineo (The Fosters) as Peter Kavinshky. It also features Janel Parrish (Pretty Little Liars) and Anna Cathcart (Dizzy in Disney's Descendants 2 and the upcoming Descendants 3) as Lara Jean's sisters.
Upon hearing the casting, Han posted on Instagram, "The most important thing for me as the author is seeing an Asian American girl in the starring role, and with this movie, we get to see not one but THREE! That is truly groundbreaking. I haven't seen Asian American women centered on the screen since Joy Luck Club, which was nearly 25 years ago. Representation is so important, and this means the world to me. More than anything, I hope that the success of this movie will lead to more opportunities for Asian American actors and writers down the line."
Sixteen-year-old Lara Jean Song keeps her love letters in a hatbox her mother gave her. They aren't love letters that anyone else wrote for her; these are ones she's written. One for every boy she's ever loved-five in all. When she writes, she pours out her heart and soul and says all the things she would never say in real life, because her letters are for her eyes only. Until the day her secret letters are mailed, and suddenly, Lara Jean's love life goes from imaginary to out of control.
