{Mad About Nails} ALLEGIANT-Inspired Nails

I've had quite a few people comment on my nails in the past ask what I was using or wish I'd done a close-up so they could see better, etc., etc., and had a realization: Why not do a feature on nail polish? It's not book-related (Unless you're wearing the new HUNGER GAMES-inspired line from China Glaze, but I'm not even going into how wrong that is...), but it's fun. Plus, if I do this feature, I'll be more likely to re-paint my nails this week and less likely to let them chip their way to the bare bones (which would mean that I could see my nails...and if I see them, I want to bite them!).

Welcome back to another edition of Mad About Nails!

This isn't my "real" Mad About Nails post for the week.
Expect another "real" post tomorrow!

For the ALLEGIANT Launch Party on Tuesday, I wanted to celebrate the debut of the book I've been waiting way-too-long to read.
(Okay, I might have read it last week and that MIGHT have been the GoodReads Status of the book I couldn't tell you about...but I couldn't OWN my own copy until Tuesday! And yes...I DID want to own it. And I WILL re-read it. So hah!)

[And no...there are no spoilers here...I won't review the book (or post my quote-marked pages) until 2014 to give more people a chance to read!]

Anyway, I fell asleep watching TV on Monday and didn't get a chance to do a "true" nail design!
I was frantic on Tuesday...What could I throw together that wouldn't get smudged before I had to work, since the party wasn't until 7 p.m.?

Well...I just wrote on top of my then-current French Tips with a memorable line from the book:

Can you read that? It says BE BRAVE.
Here it is again fisted, though now the "B" is out of order:

I did red/black lines and shatter on my right hand that looked really gross and wrong, so I didn't take a picture (I didn't trust myself to write cleanly on that hand), so I couldn't show you a lined-up "B."

Boo!

It was fun, though!

It was done fast and I didn't take time with it. I put it over nails that were starting to show their tips. I also had to reapply paint to my thumb as a base because I WANTED to draw the three ravens from Tris' tattoo...haha, I so can't draw birds! At least not with that little space!!

I took this off the following night, so it didn't last long at all!

If you want to see what polishes I used for the french tips, check out last weekend's Mad About Nails post and video. To get the black lettering, I used L.A. Colors Art Deco in Black, which I purchased at my local Dollar General. The red used for the "Be" is It's So Easy Stripe Rite in a red glitter from Sally's Beauty Supply.

In tomorrow's "real" Mad About Nails post and video, you'll see the Art Deco paint again, so no worries if you're curious!

Did you do anything to celebrate the launch of ALLEGIANT?

SEE YOU TOMORROW!

Is anyone else obsessed with nail polish? What are you wearing right now?

  1. So cool, I love that you wrote Be Brave! :D I'll have to check out the video, because I've been wanting to figure out what polish/brush would be good for writing on my nails like you did. Here's my Mad About Nails post: http://aliceinreaderland.com/2013/10/27/stars/

    1. Here are the Art Deco polish stripers they sell at Dollar General:

      This is the packaging:

(Hopefully those 2 links worked...it seems the image was cached?)
Here's what the brush looks like: http://peacelovenails.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/art-deco.jpg

They can be too thick or thin, though. Some of the polishes aren't opaque and are watery, which defeats the purpose. Others, like the black, are a little too thick.

My favorite striping polish brushes are from Sally's Beauty Supply. They're the It's So Easy Stripe Rite line, which often goes on sale there!

And here's an image of the brush:

Striping tools are great for writing letters, creating lines, etc! <3
