Last weekend, I went to Books of Wonder in NYC and met up with several fabulous authors--and bloggers, too!
I apologize for the lack of pictures, book worms! I took a ton of pictures and emailed them to myself so I could share them with you, but when I deleted them from my phone, the attachments magically deleted themselves from my email, too. I don't know why the Gmail app is connected to my camera in this way, alas....
All of these pictures come from a friend. I'm sorry again about the lack of goods!
I was lucky enough to meet:
Jocelyn Davies (A BEAUTIFUL DARK, A FRACTURED LIGHT)
~*~
BONUS!!
The e-books for both
EVERNEATH by Brodi Ashton and INCARNATE by Jodi Meadows
are on sale for
$2.99!!!!
What a great blind buy!
~*~
The authors were all so much fun to listen to! I've already read five of the above titles (and reviewed INCARNATE, UNEARTHLY, HALLOWED, and novella RADIANT), and still need to read BOUNDLESS and EVERBOUND. I've never read Teri Terry or Jocelyn Davies, but I blind-bought SLATED because it intrigued me.
Want a taste of what the authors talked about or what they're like?
Here's a round-up of my live tweets from the event (with grammatical fixes):
Jodi Meadows signs and displays her amazing sock pupper characters that she made herself while Teri Terry looks on! |
*Brodi Ashton is HILARIOUS! I love listening to her talk!
(Seriously, if you ever see her signing, go. She is hysterical!!)
*When Brodi Ashton got her first ARC, she thought the 1/12 on the spine meant it was 1 of 12 copies, not a January release! :)
*Cynthia Hand is teaching a course this term where everyone writes a novel...and she promised to write WITH them.
*Jodi Meadows is a tease. She just turned in Incarnate #3 & can't talk about anything else!
On Writing Advice:
Brodi Ashton: Hands on keyboard; write & finish!
Jocelyn Davies: You will cry and it will be hard work, but DON'T GIVE UP.
Cynthia Hand: Work on the writing itself and keep out all the voices about the rest of process as much as you can.
Teri Terry: Read as much as you can and write and write and write.
Jodi Meadows: You don't necessarily have to go to school to write. Join a critique group! Write at home!
Brodi Ashton: Étienne St. Clair (From ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS by Stephanie Perkins)
Jocelyn Davies: Mr. Darcy (From PRIDE AND PREJUDICE by Jane Austen)
Cynthia Hand: Gilbert Blythe (From ANNE OF GREEN GABLES by L.M. Montgomery
Teri Terry: Legolas (From THE LORD OF THE RINGS Trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien)
Jodi Meadows: Logan (From DEFIANCE by C.J. Redwine)
Who Do You Have Trouble Showing Your Book(s) To?:
Cynthia Hand had a different-colored sharpie for each of her three books...and each sharpie matched its respective book. LOVE!!! |
Jocelyn Davies: Doesn't want to show her parents her book until it's finished w/no issues.
Cynthia Hand: Based a teacher on one of her own--using similar names--and was nervous when sharing it!
Teri Terry: Feared showing her husband.
Jodi Meadows: Also feared showing her husband.
A Backwards Story hit a thousand followers as I went to NYC. Knowing that my blog's third-year-anniversary was less than a week away, I wanted to celebrate both milestones with YOU, my cherished readers, so I purchased a copy of INCARNATE and had it signed for a giveaway! I also have some signed swag (But didn't feel comfortable asking Jocelyn Davies because I didn't buy anything from her this time around) and some other fun swag for you from the event.
This is my love song to you. Thank you so much, everyone! I love having you here!!!
*Autographed copy of INCARNATE by Jodi Meadows in paperback, complete with a butterfly drawing
*Signed bookmarks from Brodi Ashton (EVERNEATH, EVERBOUND), Cynthia Hand (UNEARTHLY, HALLOWED, BOUNDLESS), and Teri Terry (SLATED)
*An EVERBOUND guitar pick necklace
*ASUNDER stickers
Looks like this event was amazing! I may have to see if there are any summer time events up that way and hit up my aunt in NYC for a free stay so I can attend.
ReplyDeleteWe don't get much action in FL, but I'm excited about YA Day in Savannah, GA (August). I can drive to that and make it a road trip!
Maybe BEA? I think I'm doing it this year!
DeleteBooks of Wonder doesn't post too far in advance, sadly.
Who will be at YA Day?
