{Cover Art Revealed} BRUISED by Sarah Skilton

When I was browsing around looking at upcoming books a few days ago, BRUISED caught my attention due to its striking cover:

BRUISED by Sarah Skilton

It's not unusual to see broken things on covers, but a broken trophy?  It's split in unusual spots, too.  And it's a female.  Does that trophy reflect the book's main character?  This thought is further compounded by the title, BRUISED, and the way the font choice makes the letters physically look bruised, especially that bloody "i," which is situated right by one of the breaks!

Judging from the blurb,
"She failed to save his live.  How will she live her own?"
the answer to the reader's initial question is already hinted at.  A look at the summary sheds even further light onto the cover already, and I'm intrigued to know more!

Release Date: March 5, 2013
Publisher: Amulet/Abrams

SUMMARY:

When Imogen, a sixteen-year-old black belt in Tae Kwon Do, freezes during a holdup at a local diner, the gunman is shot and killed by the police, and she blames herself for his death. Before the shooting, she believed that her black belt made her stronger than everyone else -- more responsible, more capable. But now her sense of self has been challenged and she must rebuild her life, a process that includes redefining her relationship with her family and navigating first love with the boy who was at the diner with her during the shootout. With action, romance, and a complex heroine, Bruised introduces a vibrant new voice to the young adult world -- full of dark humor and hard truths.
